BIF© Offshore Model

Offshore Software Development has emerged as one of the most successful business strategies in today’s world. In today’s rapidly changing scenario, no company can survive in a stand-alone manner. Each company whether big or small has one or more of its services, especially those related to software development, outsourced (benefits of outsourcing) so that it can concentrate more on its core activities in a much better way. There are a number of ways in which a company can go for software development outsourcing.

The six types of software delivery models through which service providers provide software development outsourcing services to companies are:

  • Image• Onsite Model wherein the service provider completes the outsourced work at the client’s premises;
  • Offsite Model wherein the service provider will be located near to the client’s premises;
  • Offshore Model wherein the service provider is located in a country different from that of the client;
  • Offsite/Offshore Model wherein the client’s task will be distributed between an onsite team working at the client’s premises and an offshore team working in a different country;
  • Offsite/Offshore Model wherein the client’s task will be accomplished by an offsite team working near to the client’s premises and an offshore team working abroad;
  • Global Delivery Model wherein the client’s work will be completed by a team working in close conjunction with the client and a group of offshore teams working from different parts of the world.

The main offshore concept of BIF© model is the ‘rightshore’ – the right mix of onsite/offsite/offshore work – that delivers high quality results at a lower price point while mitigating risk. According to the Gartner Group and Merrill Lynch, ‘rightshore’ is one of the ten largest trends in BI for the next five years.

BIF© units have a strong blending of talents in BI Technology (Knowledge Map, DW Applications Development, ETL Production, Data/Text Mining, Data Modeling, Database Design and Information Quality), OSS foundations and Software Factory. Our staffs is strongly trained in our Methodology and tools.

Rightshore Model

The main idea was born to create an offshore (rightshore) structure to provide service, in BI area, for North American companies. The business model is based on the following visions:

  • New marketing - We visualized a huge unattended BI market composed of small and medium enterprises (SME). These companies, despite their size, require information about their business performance. On the other hand traditional BI tools (Hyperion, Business Objects, Cognos, etc) are far too expensive to be deployed at this kind of company;

  • BI investment profile change - On the last years we notice a big change on the BI investment profile with the continuous increasing on the number of small and medium enterprises investing on BI projects. According to the OCO Inc. report for 2008 (“Top Five 2008 Predictions for BI”), “BI will increasingly penetrate into medium and smaller companies as more affordable solutions evolve that can cost effectively meet their needs.”

  • Open Source BI Tools - Based on the evolution of the BI Open Source tools and as an experienced user of these tools, SUMNet has foreseen that their use on the SME’s BI projects could dramatically lower costs making projects viable.

  • Offshore market - According to the Gartner Group and BusinessWeek, the offshore market is changing its focus from India and other Asian countries to Central and Eastern Europe and South America, particularly Brazil.

  • Putting all together - If we blend the use of Open Source tools with low-priced offshore development (when compared with North American costs) we could have the alternative to build better and cheaper solutions for those companies in need of a new and affordable BI solution.

BIF© Rightshore Approach

SUMNet provide an infrastructure of development located in Canada and Brazil. This enables us to obtain solutions that meet our exact requirements at very competitive prices.

In Canada our office is located at Ottawa. Our infrastructure in Brazil is located at Campinas city (São Paulo) at UNISAL (Salesian University Centre). UNISAL is a strategic intellectual capital of OSS, data base modeling and BI application development.
